The artist’s conceptual intent is to capture the inner as well as the exterior essence of the noble and religious figures of the greatest master artist of the Spanish Renaissance, El Greco. The embodiment of the characters, interpreted through photographic medium, invites the viewer to engage their imaginations to step in and out of the picture plane. Dressing into the roles depicted by El Greco, the model is transformed into the period of 17th century Spain. The model, raised in the pre-Vatican II period of Latin Masses and full-habited nuns, has expressed his heart-felt connection to a dark, yet glorious era of golden age Spain.
The photographic reinterpretation of the imagery of El Greco’s paintings are time machines, inciting the viewer’s imagination to step into the picture and travel to a distant past of both heroes and questionable figures of a bygone epoch.
